Design Competition

When Wagga Wagga launched its new “Shop Local” initiative, a public call was put out for artists and designers to submit concepts for the official gift card. The brief was open-ended but clear: represent Wagga in a way that felt connected to place, community and identity.

This design draws inspiration from the deep connection between Wiradjuri culture and the Murrumbidgee River, which runs through the heart of the region. The flowing lines symbolise movement, connection and abundance, while the colour palette reflects the local landscape - natural, earthy, and unmistakably Riverina.

My design was selected as the winning entry and now features on all gift cards distributed as part of the program. It’s a small but meaningful piece of community representation - something practical, widely used, and rooted in local identity.
