Creating a T-Shirt Design

Full Circle Coffee needed a new t-shirt design for their brand. I decided on illustration to continue with the previous design direction we had developed on their drip bag packaging. Inspired by their very cool coffee-delivering motorcycle, and the concept they were interested in of 'Deus ex Machina’, 'Deux Ex Caffeina' was born!

To be honest, I didn't know what 'Deus Ex Machina' meant at first …. incase you didn’t either, according to Chat GPT it's a ‘narrative device commonly used in literature, theater, and film, where an unexpected event, character, or object is introduced to resolve a seemingly unsolvable problem or conflict. Often, it provides a convenient solution without much explanation or development’.

The concept Full Circle came up with - 'Deus Ex Caffeina,' then, brilliantly showcases how coffee saves the day when energy dips or productivity needs a boost. It's simple, effective, and shows the synergy between coffee and the adventurous spirit of the motorcycle. More importantly it is a nod to the experience that Full Circle Coffee delivers alongside each cup.

The digital illustration was developed in both colour and black and white to suit various applications.

The GIF was created for social media use and also just because it is fun to watch the wheels go round!

I’m all in for these t-shirts, I think they are a clever concept. I can’t wait to be out and about and see someone wearing one!
